Since 1994, the competition is open to pianists from all over the world. The repertoire from 1900 to nowadays allows a wide and free choice of works with a compulsory piece commissioned to a composer every two years, performed for the first time, during the final round of the competition.
This piece is commissioned by O.C.I. with the support of the ‘Region Centre Funds for creation’ and the Francis and Mica Salabert Foundation.
The confidence and the generosity of many organizations including the ‘Fondation de France’ and the ‘Académie des beaux-arts’ grant many prizes, which help to revive great deceased composers through their work. The ‘Fondation André Chevillion-Yvonne Bonnaud’ also grants a composition prize during the first round.
This piano competition is unique in Europe due to its organization. The competition is an affiliated member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC), Alink-Argerich Foundation, and Futurs Composés.
