Talgam Imri

A versatile performer of both contemporary as well as traditional repertoire, Imri Talgam has played throughout the world, including Finland, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Britain, Mexico and the U.S. Recent appearances include venues such as Theater des Bouffes du Nord, Salle Pleyel, KKL Lucerne, Alice Tully hall and Kiev’s Ukraine hall, both as soloist and in collaboration with ensembles and chamber groups. In Israel he has appeared as soloist with several major orchestras, such as the Haifa symphony orchestra and the ISO.

Talgam is the winner of the 11th Concours International de Piano d’Orléans, in which he received 1st prize, as well as the Denisov prize and the Claude Helffer prize. Talgam’s playing has featured several times in broadcasts by the Israeli radio company; most recently, his playing has been recorded for a CD production by the Deutchlandfunk Cologne.
Talgam’s performances of contemporary music with various ensembles, including Ensemble Modern, Axiom ensemble and the Israeli Contemporary players have brought him into close contact with figures such as Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Helmut Lachenmann and N.A. Huber. Festival appearances include the Lucerne Festival, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Mänttä music festival as well as Lincoln center’s annual FOCUS festival.
Imri Talgam was born in Jerusalem in 1987 and began his music studies in the Tel-Aviv conservatory at the age of 6. His B.A. Degree was awarded Summa cum laude by the Buchmann-Mehta school of music (Tel-Aviv university), which included Organ studies with Mr. Alexander Gorin, Graduating in 2008 in the class of Prof. Emanuel Krasovsky.
During 2009 he studied with Matti Raekallio at the at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover. His studies (M.Mus) concluded with Raekallio and Robert McDonald at the Juilliard School of music in 2012.During 2012/13, Talgam has performed as pianist of the Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt, performing both classic contemporary repertoire as well as many premiers of new works.

Along with his musical activities, he has studied Philosophy and aesthetics in both the Tel-Aviv University and Columbia University. As of 2013, Talgam pursues a doctoral degree at the City University of New York under Ursula Oppens, while teaching at New York’s City College.
